Mary Long is a writer, editor, and podcast host. Most recently, she was a co-host and producer of Motley Fool Money, an award-winning daily podcast covering business and investing news.
She’s worked on both sides of the media machine, having started her career at a PR and advertising agency before becoming an editor. She’s also worked on the side of a ski mountain, inside a national park, at an apple-packing factory, and at the FBI.
Mary’s interested in the human stories behind money and power: who’s got it, what they’re doing with it, and how those decisions affect real people around the world. She lives in Denver, Colorado, where she makes regular trips to the mountains to ski, hike, bike, and explore.
What I Do
I love talking to people and making things. I have a rich editorial background that includes written and audio work. I also dabble in numerous creative side projects that range from short films to a one-night-only dance party.
I’ve got a passion for bringing ideas to life, no matter the medium.
Podcasts, Production, Events
For the past 3+ years, I worked as host and producer on Motley Fool Money, a daily podcast covering business and investing news. I also led the revival of the show’s live events efforts and currently lead monthly programming for multiple Denver-based organizations, including The Denver Press Club and the UVA Club of Colorado.
Copywriting & Content
Before working in audio, my background was in words. As an Editor on Fool.com, I managed and developed teams of writers, oversaw content operations, and led editorial efforts for the tech and crypto bureaus.
As a side project with some friends, I’m also planning a citywide, one-night-only event we’re calling Denver Dance Hall. For that, I’m our Lead Copywriter and one of our Creative Directors.
Improv & Acting
I grew up acting and say yes to just about any opportunity to continuing feeding into that outlet as an adult. I’m on an improv team at Denver’s Chaos Bloom Theater (we’re called The Rec Center All-Stars) and I regularly do voice acting for friends’ creative side projects.

from best-selling author Charles Duhigg, after appearing with me on Motley Fool Money:
“I just wanted to drop you a quick note to say thanks for having me on your show. You made me sound so smart, and so insightful – and I think it’s largely because you, yourself, are so wise that you draw it out of others. You bring such an authenticity and openness to your interviews.”
from a Motley Fool Money listener:
“MFM is the best podcast around. I started getting serious about investing in 2022 and have listened every day since. Your show has absolutely changed my financial future. […] The current hosts are terrific […] Mary is bright, upbeat, and has a good feel for the listener. The hosts add a lot to the show — lean into them, expand their roles, and don’t let them get away.”
from a colleague and guest during a live Motley Fool event I produced:
“I’m so grateful and impressed by your ability to emerge from the wings with some last-minute member questions, deftly summarized and delivered on the spot. You made members laugh, kept us to time, and gave me the peace of mind to stay focused on our guest instead of on the clock. In every new format I work with you, it is always a delight.”
from a Motley Fool Money colleague and audio engineer:
“You’re great at what you do — making our biggest and most loyal audience smarter, happier, and richer on a daily basis! It’s been such a treat to work with you on MFM all this time.”
